Within the ring or evergreens, the space is claimed by a sloping meadow, which descends to a water table that is witnessed by the names of those who died carved on the enclosing stone wall. Access to the memorial occurrs at the surviving tree, enabling visitors to experience the memorial from the top of the path on the wall.
